Title: Principal Stress Engineer – Team Leader

Main Purpose of the Job: To lead a team who provides stress analysis services to the company using recognised analysis software and classical methods

Introduction
Due to recent large scale engineering contract awards, we are currently seeking a Principal Stress Engineer to lead a team in its Naval and Nuclear group based in Bristol. Although relevant experience in the nuclear industry would be an advantage, applications from engineers with transferable skills are welcome. However, generic analytical discipline requirements include structural, thermal, fatigue and fracture analysis.
It would be very advantageous if applicants have experience in the principles of structural integrity assessment of nuclear high integrity components. Experience of industry recognised finite element analysis software such as ANSYS or ABAQUS is essential.
MAIN DUTIES
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, flexible and be able to work on her/his own initiative and lead a team within a busy and demanding environment. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong ability to manage multiple activities and to be able to prioritise effectively. A professional attitude and excellent organisation skills will be complemented by a high standard of communication skills as the role involves liaising at all levels. The following disciplines are typical examples of techniques employed in support of the Design and Substantiation team. Assystem are looking for a candidate with proven experience and/or working knowledge in the following:
Structural steelwork, cranes, remote handling – Hand calculations BS2573, BS5950
- Pressure vessel integrity – ASME III, ASME VIII
- Process – pipe stress
- Fatigue assessment
- Fracture mechanics – RCODE, R6 Procedure
- Thermal analysis
- Static FEA stress analysis with linear/non linear materials
- Vibration assessment
- Seismic analysis
- Impact analysis
Requirements:
Degree or equivalent qualification and experience in an engineering discipline
- CEng desirable
- Knowledge of some of the following software will be desirable
- ANSYS
- Simulia ABAQUS
- Altair Hyperworks
- PSA5
- PTC Mathcad
- Computer literate in MS Office 2003 (Outlook, Word, Excel & Powerpoint)
- Effective communication and commercial awareness
- Self motivated and customer focussed
- Able to work alone or part of a team
Location:
The position will be based in the North East office, however travel to our other offices and customer sites throughout Europe may be required
Salary & Benefits:
Competitive basic salary, reviewed annually
